Labour Leadership campaign comes to Gloucester

Andy Burnham brought his campaign for the Labour leadership to Gloucester on Friday.  He also leant his support to the campaign against the stopping of free swimming which I have been organising in Gloucester. This inexpensive initiative which he pioneered at the Department of Health has lead to real benefits in Gloucester for young and old, and in other parts of the country that took it up. He is furious that the scheme has been taken away at the stroke of a ConDem pen.

At a meeting of Labour members from across Gloucestershire he put forward a platform of aspirational socialism. A Britain where your life chances are not decided by the postcode of the bed you are born in. I think that many people can identify with that and I know that whatever the result of the Labour leadership, Andy Burnham has a lot to offer this Country. I hope he will get the opportunity soon.
